On Native Ground
Thankfully, author and Air America talk radio host Thom Hartmann has the guts to tell Americans what is happening and what can be done about it. In his new book, "Screwed: The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class," Hartmann makes a compelling case for what the average person in America is up against. Regular visitors to the liberal blogosphere are familiar with Hartmann and his views on democracy and economic issues. The ground he covers in his book is familiar. What makes "Screwed" valuable is how it ties everything together into one convenient package. It provides plenty of fodder for shutting up your dittohead neighbor when he starts talking about all the wonderful things the Republicans have done to working Americans, such as these amazing fun facts: - The inflation-adjusted average annual pay for CEOs went up from $7,773,000 in 2002 to $9,600,000 in 2004.
Top 10 weirdest workplace events
Chicago outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc. recently released a list of what it called 2007s most unbelievable workplace stories: Workers in Scotland lined up to take classes which encouraged flirting to get ahead in their careers. Class exercises included purring like a kitten and dancing like Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. A new tactic to shame delinquent policemen in Thailand who commit misdemeanors, such as littering or coming to work late, requires them to stay in the office all day and sport an armband featuring a smiling Hello Kitty surrounded by hearts. An Iowa woman was fired for misuse of company time for keeping a diary about how she avoids work. Some of the entries detailed her efforts to fool management into believing she was hard at work, usually by furiously typing her journal.
NJ motorists may want to get red-light smiles ready
You know the ones where you can mount them in Trenton and they take pictures of our senators and assembly members when they do nothing or support nonsense bills. They then get a ticket in the mail and get their privileges revoked. Like the current "I'm sorry" bill or the smaller insurance card bill. .
Female Voters Abandoning Clinton for Obama
This may be what prompted Clinton to play the gender card in the New Hampshire Democratic debate on Saturday night. She said that her potential to become the first female president helps make her an "agent of change," a characteristic that has polled highly among female Democratic voters. "But I think I am an agent of change. I embody change," Clinton volunteered in the debate. "I think having the first woman president is a huge change with consequences across our country and the world." In Iowa, however, the fact that Clinton could become the first female president did not persuade female Democratic voters to support her. According to the television networks' entrance poll of 2,136 voters attending the Democratic presidential caucuses last Thursday evening, Obama beat Clinton among all female voters 35% to 30%.
