Digital Experience at CES 2008- Another great showcase
One of the most popular is the Digital Experience, this year held at the Caesars Palace Augustus ballroom. With more than 100 vendors showing their latest digital gadgets at this venue alone, there is always something to check out, not always revolutionary, but still cool nonetheless. It is a mini trade show in its own right and features some very cool consumer electronics devices from interesting companies. Many product categories are represented at this first class event with decent grinds and free flowing alcohol. There is always a lot to see as you eat, drink and ask questions. Pioneer Floats Mainstream AVRs
Last year, Pioneer and Onkyo were the first companies to offer Sirius/XM-ready AVRs. The series starts with the $199-suggested VSX-518-K 5x120-watt model with 192kHz/24-bit DACs, three component-video inputs and subwoofer pre-out. The $299 VSX-818V, due in March, adds the iPod-friendly USB port. It's XM/Sirius-ready and features large display screen, Neural Surround decoding of XM surround broadcasts, HDMI video switching (two in/ one out), and multichannel acoustic calibration (MCAAC) room-acoustics correction. The $399 VSX-918V, due March, adds multiple HDMI enhancements, including HDMI Repeater function and HDMI Lip Sync, which ensures the audio and video of an HDMI-connected source are synchronized. (Broadcasting and Cable) _ Only hours into his job as head of sales at Starz premium movie channel in 2003, Bob Clasen was on a flight to Philadelphia, sent to broker a truce in a nasty dispute with Comcast Corp. At issue between the cable giant and Starz parent Liberty Media were fees that Comcast inherited after buying TCI systems. Clasen, a cable vet who'd once worked at Comcast Cable, could have pushed the issue. Instead, the former psychology Ph.D. student, known for being both soft-spoken yet strong-minded, played it cool and achieved a satisfying outcome. When asked how he engineered the happy ending, he says, "I'm a good listener." Fire at warehouse south of Seoul kills 7, injures 10
Seven people were killed and 10 injured in a fire at a warehouse south of Seoul, and up to 32 people were missing, an official said Monday. Kim Jung-geun, a fire official in Icheon, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of Seoul, said more than 500 firefighters were trying to put out the blaze. The exact cause of the fire, which started at the warehouse in the morning, was not known, Kim said. "We do not yet fully have the fire under control because smoke is still coming out of the basement," Kim said. He said an unspecified number of people are trapped in basement of the facility. Ha Jae-ho, a fire investigator at a Icheon fire station, said firefighters and rescue officials were conducting an operation cautiously because the building might collapse. .
